The Electronic Government (e-Gov) also known as the Smart Zambia Institute is a Division in the Office of the President which is charged with the responsibility of the management and promotion of electronic Government services and processes; facilitate access to electronic Government services to improve service delivery to enhance citizens access to Government services, coordination of e-government and information and communication technology matters in public bodies. The Division draws its mandate from the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021. The Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021 is a Governance Act required to facilitate access to electronic Government services to improve service delivery.
On 7th January 2022 the President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema signed the Commencement Order for the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021. The E-Government Division, SMART Zambia Institute, will operate based on the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021.
